Hi Poppy,
I came across your website whilst doing research for an essay. I'm a 40 something photography student. I recently gave up my 23 year long career as a graphic designer to retrain as an art teacher. I'm married and a mum.

I can say, speaking from experience, the design profession is still a very male world to try to be successful in, as a woman.

I'm told this and I am starting to see more women exhibited in galleries and that the imbalance is being addressed. I can't help but wonder though, if it is a token gesture to quiet the many talented women photographers who still do not receive the acclaim they deserve. I guess only time will tell on that one. Two thirds of my class are women, how many of them will make a good living out of the profession of their choice compared to the male students? Again only time will tell.

I do think if you are born female you are a feminist, it's a shame the word has been turned into something to be politically afraid of.

I do believe, or maybe it's hope, that one day gender will not be an issue in creativity or day to day life. I hope I live long enough to see it.
