I’ve been procrastinating reviewing my photos for a couple of weeks. I’ve been slowly working on a project – review a small section of photos and judge each for what design element the image includes: line, shape, form, texture, pattern, or color.
I selected 114 photos, some I’m proud of, some I’m not sure why I took, for a manageable sample. I marked them all with a green label so I could find them again. And then put off going through them until I had the time to do the whole set at once.
I’ve got slightly more images themed Texture than Form. My smallest category is Shape. And I think I may have misjudged Color – a lot of what I have, I took because the colors appealed to me, but on further consideration, the color is less important to the image than a line or a form.
Ideally, this means I should practice Shape images, as well as Pattern, which was the second smallest. I’m sure I’ll get to that practice someday soon, but I’m not going to beat myself over the head about it right now.
I’ve been drooling over the pictures at Still Life With… for the past few days. It’s a pity I gave up posting on Flickr, because I sure would like to join in. Perhaps I will pick up the challenge for April (Pink!) and post some entries here instead. I’ve been enjoying the images from Still Life With… – and the companion Flickr group – that I’m considering dabbling in food photography again. As witness the eggs posted here and the asparagus that I need to go set up for before I take off for the night.
In fact, I think I’ll go do that now. Good night, moon. Good night, desk. Good night, all.
